A dance of water and human dancing with water

It has been a period of rehersals and tests!

Finally, here is a clearer idea about our dance performances.

My water ritual will have two dancing parts as an introduction into spectators participation . At the same time, whole performance is meant to be a ritual to honour and be aware of correlation between human and water.

Therefore, we will start with introducing “a water”- Yulia Kalinchenko.

She is a water- it flows, it moves constantly. It can be gentle as a drop, mysterious as a pond or lake, quick and smooth as a stream, fast as a river, mesmerizing as whirl, unstoppable as a wave of the sea, deep and destructiable as an ocean…

 

 


 

 

After water  has created life on Earth…human has been born..in a water.

What is a water? What is human relation to it and waters relation to human?

It can purify us/ clean our body, it feeds us, gives us minerals to live , to breath..

but it can be dangerous to us as well- can human be dangerous to water?

It is all connected no?

We are all one.

 

 

“Building, rehearsing, thinking&processing”

“It has been six months since I started making this performance. It feels like I was just thinking and sketching so far, the real work has just started or is still about to come. There are few words constantly running in my head:
It is about life, breath, movement, rebirth, purifing, to feel the water, to be a water, to touch it, smell it, to be a commnunity, to vibrate in space and time,..etc.

Here is a new one :
Nothing is still, everything is changing, circiling, floating. Water can not be fixed or stopped, it flows. So, I decided to listen to it and flow.”

As you can see it has been almost a month of a hard work  and more or less technical way of thinking. After all, I am glad to finally see the result infront of me, just like I imagned it.

Next step: suing the tent!

Four months of study, testing, trying out, thinking and drawing..have passed…Meanwhile, I got a precious gift: two dancers and an audio-technical help or a co creator!

It has been not only fun and exciting but also spiritual and creative!

So far, we have made first dancing tests, sound experiments and model testing. There is a long story board growing in my head, lots of “water noises”, dancing movements and visual/ design solutions…

Here its a short summary of our ideas and first steps!

 

 


 

At the same time..there is a secret we have to keep for our-selfs until the last moment..but to make a hint, it is a development of a Native american water ritual called ; Sweat lodge. I had participated at it in previous month and all I can say; deep, amazing, hot experience which will be a base for making our own way of a purification on our stage.


 

Main idea is:

-TO BREATHE

-TO BE A WATER

-TO FEEL THE WATER

-TO PURIFY

-TO VIBRATE IN SPACE AND TIME


 

To end up, this is just a beginning of a very long, exciting and magical way of creating a water: human performance.

first tests and experiments o.1

After 3 months of study and research , my first model is build and ready to test!

My first experiments were more based on water-light reflections, sounds of water and its movements. Idea and concept has been developed to a circle shaped pool- a  dance floor. The floor itself will not only be a water dance performance but also a place of a water ritual.

However, here is the first model, first light -improvisation (which will be improved soon by light design studio ILO, Amsterdam) and also a documentation of sound vibration on the waters surface.

For making this vibrations, I have used low bass sounds, 100hz, 140hz.

It makes great rippels and vibrations on the water surface, but for now, it will stay only an experiment. Its vibration is not useful for a light reflections (for now) also  the sound is not inviting.

For the next few months I will be working on developing a performance or experience where my spectators become participants. Together with a dancer they will become a creative and moving audience. As a group they will take part in  a  water ritual  (sweat lodge-native American ritual) and find their water within.

This is a plan!

Here are some questions which I am (will be ) aksing myself through this research.

a.)Water on Earth

–       water is a base of life

–       it is also a matter which can change its shape and state

–       it has its own tastes : salty and sweet

–       it shapes rivers, lakes , seas and oceans,  it is like a blood of the Earth

–       water is cycling: from steam in the clouds to rain at earths floor, to liquid power which creates/ destroy lifes

–       water also comes from within Earths surface/ground: caves/ water caves

–       it passes through space and time of the Earths floor and sky

–       Q: Does water has a memory? I fit does, does it/ could it remember its own history: places, people or time where it has been so far?

–       Q: Can a water cave be experienced as a human womb? Are the water caves an origin of life?

b.)Water  and /in human

–       Human body consists 80% of water.

  • We are born in  a water womb.
  •  Q: Are we born and created in a salty water?

–       Tears: salty water inside of the human body

–       Q: Why are tears salty, why are all human liquids salty?

–       A water which comes on our skin surface , through an eye(window of the soul) only when we feel deep emotions.

–       Q:Does it  salty-ness has any connection with the ORIGIN? The big ocean where we all come from?

–        If water has a memory, could tears have a memory? A memory of its emotions?

–       Water rituals in human history : purification or morning.

–       When we move in the water or on its surface `; we make waves: waves of vibration

Spring project with Sanna Danz

In this semester we had an opportunity to work with a stage designer Sanna Danz.

Our mission was to make an idea, proposal or an actual MEETING POINT with the title :

“Lets get togehter!”

My idea was to make an installation at which public is the main artist. It means, to make a half done work. Its main meaning is for people to meet under or around the installation. By meeting and gathering , an installation would be built by people them self. Main idea therefore, is the process of creating a piece of art together.

The concept arrives from the quote; “We are all part of a universal pattern”, which is a regular shape of Hexagonal.

This particular pattern can be find in almost all natural structures for instance not only in honeybee combs and sunflowers structures but also in most of the chemical structures which can bare multiple parts in one single form. Hexagonal form is commonly used in architecture, design and building fields because it is a universal pattern to hold many parts in one single form or shape.

I decided to use this pattern as one shape, which is in my case a curve shape or “a cave”. My intention is to create a cave under which people would meet and gather.

An important part are pieces, which my audience would add to the iron web of hexagonal forms or to the “cave form”. My plan is to use parts of a plastic bottles into which people would add their seeds. Seeds are symbols for life of course. In my case all together would mean;” to add a part of your life to unity of one pattern”. Furthermore, it also means to create a “cave of life” in which each of us has his /her own part.

To make a conclusion, my idea is about the process of meeting and gathering. My meeting point would be built or finished by its own public through time and space. At the same time life of plants would add a symbolic meaning of our life as temporary state of being. Finally, it is all about being part of one shape at the same time and place, to                                                                                                        participate, to add your part to a “bigger picture”.

“LAYERS OF US”

“Layers of us” /  layers of Earth: layers of human


Layers of us, found at the building area of river Lek, Vianen-Utrecht.

While observing my videos from  this area, spectator is invited to explore his own layers of; subcounscious, pre-conscious, and consciuos or “here and now” …

To map a dream, a memory, a story,.. to explore soil, clay and grass field, from som eother dimension /dimension of a camera which is projected parralleled with my observations of the river bed.

A drawing table is a tool for architects to do their designs: for building, city and so
on. Our world had been built up from the drawing tables in the old times, before computerand any drawing software were invented.

To reposition Anja’s work on this table with a live
camera attached on the mechanical part, gives an instruction to spectators that they can
use the camera to search and feel the soil layers in their own way.
In the space, the two beamers project two different video: the one in front of the
table, is the video made from Anja, the position where it is projected is for the
user(spectator) to watch and be guided while they are operating the camera; another
projection, is connected to the camera, it means when the spectator record the video, at
the same time, it will be projected on the wall. By this way, creating another layer of
spectatorship: one person watches the video from Anja and operates the camera, and
then others will watch Anja’s video, the person and the live camera projection
